The golden glow you get from a spray tan doesn't have to stand alone. Even though your glistening skin sparkles, a special event, night out, or any other occasion may mean that you add a cosmetic cover to your freshly spray-tanned face. If you're not sure about wearing makeup after a spray tan, look at the do's and don'ts to follow.
Showering immediately after a spray tan is a major no-no. The same goes for getting your face wet.
So covering your recently spray-tanned face with a creamy foundation may ruin your faux glow. While foundation may not have the same tan-ruining power as a full-fledged shower, the foundation wouldn't help to extend the life of your glow.
Wait six to eight hours after spray tanning before applying foundation. The moisture in the makeup can cause splotching, ruining your tan or creating a noticeably uneven effect.
Your regular makeup won't match your new skin tone. Instead of applying the same foundation, powder, and concealer, switch to new shades that match your golden glow. If this is a one-time tan, you might want to consider skipping the makeup entirely and sticking with your fresh, tanned face. This can save you money on makeup that you may never use again.
If you regularly tan, invest in a second set of cosmetics that match your desired glow. Another and often less expensive option is to mix in a dab of bronzer. This darkens your normal foundation, making it match your current skin tone.
Foundation and other similar products such as concealer or a bb cream probably aren't the only cosmetics that you wear. Along with these basics, your makeup routine may include eye, cheek, and lip colors. While you don't have to go a shade or two darker, like you'd do for your foundation, you do have more options.
With a new skin tone, you can play with color in a different way. Think back to when you first used makeup. You probably weren't sure what lipstick to choose or which eye shadow worked with your coloring. Years later, exploring with plenty of products has taught you what colors work best for you.
Your sunless tan has put you back at square one. Instead of looking at this as a challenge, think of this as an exciting time to explore and experiment with color in very different ways. Invest in a multi-color palette of eye, lip, or cheek colors, trying different combinations with your glowing complexion.
While choosing an entire beauty box of new colors is exciting, don't jump to buy a rainbow of products immediately. Your spray tan will likely change following your first shower. Most spray tans darken during the first hours after application. The tan may then lighten after you shower - again, always wait six to eight hours before getting your skin wet.
Choosing a new palette of colors immediately after tanning may result in a somewhat off match. Wait until the next day to see what the true tan color will look like.
Enhancing the faux glow is a major makeup goal after spray tanning. Mattifying your skin with thick foundation or a heavy powder works against your tan. Switch up your makeup routine and choose a light gel bronzer, a creamy blush, eye shadows with a subtle sparkle, or a dewy lip gloss.
